The Latin Fury! Song Spotlight Series takes a closer look at the songs that are part of the show.
This song spotlight is on “Oye Como Va”!
“Oya Como Va” was originally written by Tito Puentes in the early 1960s but it was newly-developed and released in 1971 to wide popularity by Santana.
In creating what is now the definitive version, Santana brought signature guitar elements with an infectious dose of rock and distinct Latin flavour.
The song ended up on the top 10 of the Canadian and Mexican singles charts, and cracked the Billboard 100 Top 15. It was later inducted into both the Grammy and Latin Grammy Hall of Fame.
Not to be outdone, everyone from Julio Iglesias and Celia Cruz to Michel Camilo and Natalie Cole have subsequently covered the song – proving its lasting influence and legacy that makes it essential listening as part of the Latin Fury! concert experience.
